Volunteering at Holden Street
Let's Work Together
Volunteers are the beating heart of Holden Street Neighbourhood House. Our House is a place for everyone, and we couldn’t do what we do without the generosity, care and diverse experiences of our volunteer community.
We welcome people of all backgrounds, ages, identities, cultures, abilities and lived experiences. Whether you’re looking to volunteer regularly, support a one-off event, or share your skills in a way that works for you, your time and contribution are genuinely valued.
Ways you can get involved
We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities to suit different interests, skills, access needs and availability, including:
Special Event Volunteers (ad hoc support for events and activities)
Administration Volunteers
Volunteer Program Facilitators
(e.g. language classes, art groups, tech help, or sharing a special skill)Food Relief Volunteers
BBQ Fundraiser Volunteers
Drivers
Garden Maintenance Volunteers
House Maintenance Volunteers
Committee of Governance Members
This list is not exhaustive. If you have an idea, a skill, or a way you’d like to contribute that isn’t listed here, we’d love to hear about it. We’re always open to conversations about new and evolving volunteering opportunities.
Access, support & flexibility
We are committed to making volunteering at Holden Street as accessible and inclusive as possible. We understand that everyone’s capacity, availability and access needs are different, and we’re happy to explore flexible options wherever we can.
This may include:
Flexible or shared roles
One-off or short-term volunteering
Adjusted tasks or environments
Additional support, guidance or check-ins
If there’s anything that would help you feel comfortable and supported in a volunteering role, we encourage you to let us know- we’re always happy to talk it through.
What happens next?
Thank you for considering volunteering with Holden Street — we’re really glad you’re here.
Once you submit an Expression of Interest, a member of our team will be in touch to organise a conversation or meeting to talk through your interests, availability and suitability for different roles.
We aim to respond to all volunteer submissions within one week. That said, neighbourhood houses are wonderfully unpredictable places, and occasionally a busy day full of community needs means things take a little longer. If you haven’t heard from us after a week, please feel free to follow up.
All volunteers are required to:
Complete a Police Check, and
Hold a Working With Children Check (Volunteer type, at a minimum).
We’ll explain this process clearly and support you through each step after our initial conversation.
If you have any questions at all in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’d love to welcome you into our volunteer community.
